The new issue of Northeast Ohio Catholic magazine will be arriving soon in homes throughout the eight-county Diocese of Cleveland.
Featured prominently in the November/December issue is a story about the Christ Child Society of Cleveland, which honored Bishop Edward Malesic as its Person of the Year on Nov. 2. The organization’s mission is challenging childhood poverty in Greater Cleveland. Click here to read about the Person of the Year event.
To that end, it distributes layettes to new mothers in need. One recipient, Cherelle Shropshire, is highlighted in an accompanying video (see above). Shropshire, her 2-year-old son and newborn daughter are living temporarily at Zelie’s Home, a nonprofit that provides shelter and support services to pregnant and parenting women and their families. She expressed her gratitude to the Christ Child Society, saying, “Knowing that people care who don’t know your story and that they are willing to take time out of their lives to bless you with these things is amazing. It gives me hope because somebody cares about her. Somebody sat down, took the time and effort to sew something up for my baby.”
Also featured in the new magazine is a story about the 175th anniversary of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, the mother church of the diocese.
