The wake for Deacon Thomas J. Senn begins with vespers at 3 p.m. Nov. 15 in St. Raphael Church, 525 Dover Center Road, Bay Village, and will continue until 7 p.m. Bishop Martin Amos, retired bishop of Davenport, Iowa, will preside at vespers. Deacon Larry Gregg will be the homilist.
The funeral Mass for Deacon Senn will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 16 in St. Raphael Church with Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost as the main celebrant. Father Dan Schlegel, St. Raphael pastor, will be the homilist.
Deacon Senn, 86, died on Nov. 9.
He was born on April 7, 1938. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, children and grandchildren.
On May 19, 1990, he was ordained to the permanent diaconate for service to the Diocese of Cleveland by the late Bishop Anthony Pilla. The ordination took place in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
After ordination, Deacon Senn was assigned to serve St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Parma. During this assignment, he also served as part-time chaplain at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center, effective Sept. 20, 1994.
On Aug. 15, 2000, Deacon Senn was assigned to serve at Our Lady of Angels Parish in Cleveland, where he remained until his retirement on June 1, 2013. Since retiring, he continued to assist as a deacon when needed and continued his ministry to the incarcerated.
Those who knew him said Deacon Senn would be remembered for his kindness and devotion to the sick and suffering and the love and care he gave to prisoners and jail staff.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park.
