The wake for Deacon Kenneth J. Hill will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. Feb. 3 in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 13400 Lorain Ave., Cleveland. Bishop Edward Malesic will preside and Father Jack Manning, St. Vincent de Paul pastor emeritus, will be the homilist. The wake will continue until 7 p.m. in the church.
Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost will be the main celebrant at Deacon Hill’s funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Feb. 4 in St. Vincent de Paul Church. Father John Pfeifer, St. Vincent de Paul pastor, will be the homilist.
Deacon Hill, 77, died Jan. 27.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy (Nicola), children and grandchildren.
The late Bishop Anthony Pilla ordained Deacon Hill to the permanent diaconate for service to the Diocese of Cleveland on May 20, 1995 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
After ordination, Deacon Hill was assigned to serve St. Vincent de Paul Parish, where he ministered until his death.
Those who knew him said Deacon Hill will be remembered for his kindness and dedication to helping young parents through the baptism preparation program. Deacon Hill, who worked as a mail carrier and delivered mail in the parish territory, was able to minister throughout his work day. His motto was, “I am here to serve” and he was known for generously giving of his time to help those in need.
A private interment will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
