Today’s readings remind us just how easy it is for us to sin. They also remind us of the consequences of sin.
A virtuous man only has to trip once in order to fall. And a sinner only has to pick himself up only once in order to walk again.
Jesus says that murder begins with anger. He likens anger to killing. A good man can become angry and sin against his neighbor. But a man who has sinned in his heart, can also go and be reconciled with his neighbor.
Lent is a time to realize that we are all sinners. It is also a time to fight against the temptation to sin. It is a time of reconciliation with those we have sinned against, including God.
