Today is the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord.
Mary was a young woman when the angel came to her to announce that she would be the mother of God’s son. She must have been afraid. The angel saw this fear and said, “Do not be afraid Mary.”
At important times we may be afraid, too. It might have been on the day of your wedding. Or, in my case, it was the day of my ordination. It may have been the day a woman discovered that she was pregnant with her child, or the day that a parent died, or when we felt all alone in this world.
Yet, God gives us every grace we need to fulfill his will, and to walk into the future with faith and hope.
Let’s pray for the grace needed to do what God asks of us and the courage to do it, using Mary as our model. She said, “May it be done to me according to your word.”
Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
