When Jesus called God his own Father, some of the crowd tried even more to kill him. By calling God his Father, he made himself equal to God.
Jesus reveals his intimate connection to the Father by saying that he only does what his Father tells him to do. He links his miracles to the power of God that resides in him as God’s Son. Then he speaks about the life that God gives through him as God’s Son: “I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation… The hour is coming and is now here when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.”
We have come to know that Jesus is God’s Son. He has the power of the Father. And when we call on Jesus, Jesus gives us life. Jesus is God, after all.
