Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Lent – April 9, 2025

The three young men in our first reading would not worship a false God. They would rather die than commit idolatry. They were put into the great fire to be killed, but when their torturers looked into the furnace, they saw the three young men walking in the fire with a fourth person who looked like “a son of God.” They were saved.

Jesus is the man who walks with us in the fire. When we are troubled, Jesus is with us. When we are persecuted for following our faith, Jesus is in the furnace with us. When we are sick, he sits with us. He comes to set us free from the bonds of death and destruction.

One of the important lines from today’s readings is this one: “So if the Son frees you, then you will truly be free.”
