Today is a day of great anticipation and hope. We anticipate the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection. We hope for our own resurrection from the dead as his disciples.
Tonight, there will be a fire lit outside our churches as Christ is presented as the light for the world. The light of the Easter candle, the symbol of Christ, will lead us in procession to the altar. The darkness inside our churches will be overcome by the candles of those who will receive their light from Christ. The readings of our salvation will be proclaimed telling the story of creation, release from bondage, and death turned to life. Those among us who have been formed all year by the Gospel of Jesus and the teaching of his Church will be baptized, confirmed and finally share Eucharist with us at the table of the Lord’s Supper.
Let us pray for those who will be baptized or received into full communion with the Catholic Church tonight. They inspire us to embrace our own faith with greater intensity.
Let us keep this day as a day of anticipation and hope – for the new life that Jesus will pour into all of us. This is a hope that will not disappoint.
