Catholic radio station AM 1260 The Rock expands coverage, celebrates 10th anniversary

News of the Diocese

June 2, 2025

St. Peter The Rock Media, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that operates the Catholic radio station AM 1260 The Rock, (WCCR-Cleveland), is expanding into Lorain County. Effective June 1, it acquired the signals of AM 930 and FM 100.3 from the Elyria-Lorain Broadcasting Co.

The acquisition of the 24-hour Lorain County signals will allow St. Peter The Rock Media to expand its coverage deep into Lorain and Medina counties, where it can reach an additional 600,000 potential listeners. The organization recently celebrated 10 years of broadcasting as one of more than 400 affiliates nationwide of the EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network.

"We are looking forward to serving the community for years to come, bringing the good news of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," said Gerald Monroe, founding board member and president of St. Peter the Rock Media. It was an honor and a privilege to succeed WEOL on the AM 930 and FM 100.3 signals, Monroe added.

“St. Peter The Rock Media, a lay apostolate operating AM 1260 The Rock, Cleveland Catholic Radio in the diocese, providing outstanding Catholic radio programming to Northeast Ohio faithfully for the last 10 years, has reached a new and exciting chapter in their mission to inspire a conversion of heart and a deepening of the faith in people while building up the local body of Christ,” said Bishop Edward Malesic, shepherd of the eight-county Catholic Diocese of Cleveland.

Although it is an independent, nonprofit organization, the station has the bishop’s support.

“I am delighted to acknowledge and applaud their leadership’s acquisition of two radio signal licenses in Lorain County, AM 930 and FM 100.3 that, going forward, will serve as an important source of Catholic programming promoting the teachings of Jesus Christ and the many activities of the local parishes and other Catholic ministries throughout Lorain and surrounding counties. May God continue to bless St. Peter The Rock Media, their dedicated employees, volunteers and listeners,” the bishop added.

Over both its AM 1260 flagship and the new Lorain County signals, St. Peter The Rock Media broadcasts programming primarily provided through the EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network, part of the Eternal Word Television Network founded by Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, PCPA in Irondale, Alabama. The format includes news, talk, call-in programs, prayers and devotions and interview programs. In addition, local programming produced by AM 1260 The Rock including “Table Talk,” “God Calling” and “Where We Worship,” will air on AM 930 and FM 100.3, as well as local community news, Gospel reflections from local priests and special broadcasts.

The organization recently celebrated 10 years of broadcasting as one of more than 400 affiliates nationwide of the EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network. A gala celebration on May 9 at the Embassy Suites in Independence drew more than 300 donors and friends of the station. They heard presentations from Father Gerald Murray, a priest of the Archdiocese of New York, and Father Thomas Loya, Byzantine Priest of the Eparchy of Parma and host of “Light of the East.”

The station went on the air May 11, 2015, after the group acquired AM 1260 from Radio Disney.

WEOL was the first radio station in Lorain County, signing on-the-air Oct. 17, 1948, owned by the newly created Elyria-Lorain Broadcasting Co. On May 15, 1958, ELBC was purchased by the Lorain County Printing and Publishing Co., making it a wholly owned subsidiary. LCP&P also owns the Chronicle Telegram newspaper in Elyria and the Gazette in Medina.
