Holy Rosary Parish in Little Italy hosts 126th  Feast of the Assumption

From Aug. 14-17, Holy Rosary Parish in Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood will host its 126th Feast of the Assumption celebration. The pastor, Father Joseph Previte, said the festival takes place on and around the parish grounds, 12021 Mayfield Road, Cleveland. A vigil Mass for the Assumption will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 14 in the church.

Bishop Edward Malesic will celebrate a solemn feast day Mass at 10 a.m. Aug. 15, with Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost, Father Previte and other clergy concelebrating. Additional Masses will be at noon and 8 p.m. on Aug. 15 in the church. The traditional solemn procession through the streets of Little Italy will follow the 10 a.m. Mass.

“The Feast” as the multi-day celebration is known, kicks off 6-10 p.m. Aug. 14, when the food stands, games, entertainment and more open in the church yard. Musical entertainment also will take place on Mayfield Road.

A cavatelli dinner will take place 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the church hall, with entertainment, games, music and vendor stands open noon to midnight in the church yard.

On Aug. 16, booths in the church yard will be open noon to 11 p.m. The vigil Mass will be at 4 p.m. in the church. Masses on Aug. 17 will be at 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the church.

The rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Aug. 14-17 at the parish’s outdoor shrine in the church piazza, on the side of the church near Coltman Road.

Holy Rosary Parish has celebrated the Assumption for 126 years. On the final evening, Aug. 17, there will be a candlelight procession at 9 p.m. honoring the Blessed Virgin. A short prayer service will conclude the four-day celebration.

Holy Rosary was founded in 1892 as an Italian parish, and retains its Italian heritage while serving the faithful in Cleveland’s University Circle area and beyond.
