Veteran educator Kathryn Powers joined Holy Name High School as its new principal. She replaces Molly Krist, who resigned in July to become assistant principal at Rocky River High School.
Powers, who has more than 30 years of experience in Catholic and public schools as a teacher, principal, director of instruction, human resources officer and superintendent, brings many gifts and talents to Holy Name, including strong communication and instructional leadership skills. Most recently, she served as superintendent of Twinsburg City Schools.
“Holy Name High School's commitment to academic excellence and Catholic values deeply resonates with me. As principal, I commit to bringing a steady, faith-aligned leadership presence and a collaborative spirit that supports teachers, inspires students, and strengthens the school community,” she said.
“The Diocese of Cleveland’s Office of Catholic Education believes that Mrs. Powers possesses the skills and passion to effectively lead Holy Name High School as its next principal,” said Michael Zelenka, associate superintendent for secondary schools. He said Powers “authentically lives her deep Catholic faith through relationship building, pursuing excellence in all things and immersing herself in the life of the school community. Her vast experience in schools provides wisdom and experience in working with students, families, faculty, staff and community members and developing programs and systems to ensure students’ success.”
Shelbrey Blanc, Holy Name High School president, said she is looking forward to working with Powers.
“We welcome Mrs. Powers and I look forward to working alongside her to advance the great mission of Holy Name – leading young adults to Christ by educating them in mind, body and spirit,” she said.
Holy Name High School was founded in 1914. It is a diocesan-sponsored, coeducational, comprehensive, college preparatory high school. Committed to providing secondary education in the Catholic faith and intellectual traditions, Holy Name serves more than 650 students in grades 9-12.
