The wake for Deacon Daniel J. Matusicky will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. Oct. 22 in St. Paul Church, 1580 Brown St., Akron. Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost will preside and Father Matthew Pfeiffer, pastor of St. Paul Parish, will preach. The wake will continue until 8 p.m.
Father John Valencheck, pastor of St. Sebastian Parish in Akron, will celebrate Deacon Matusicky’s funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Oct. 23 in St. Paul Church. Deacon John Amedeo will be the homilist.
Deacon Matusicky, 90, died on Oct. 19. Survivors include his wife Phyllis (nee Ham), children and grandchildren.
Bishop James Hickey ordained Deacon Matusicky to the permanent diaconate for service to the Diocese of Cleveland on June 18, 1978, in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
After ordination, Deacon Matusicky was assigned to serve the Word of Life Prayer Community. On Aug. 2, 1979, he began his affiliation with the Bread of Life Community. Deacon Matusicky was assigned to serve at St. Bernard Parish in Akron from Oct. 1, 1981, until his retirement on June 30, 2006.
He enjoyed ministering to the charismatic community, groups in the parish and prison ministry. Deacon Matusicky was proud to have served the Church as a deacon for 47 years.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
