Advent is the season of getting ready. Most of us are preparing in big and small ways to celebrate the first coming of Jesus at Christmas. But we are also reminded to prepare to welcome Christ back again at the end of time, or for most of us, on the day we die.
Today’s readings focus on the second coming of Jesus, for, as St. Paul says, “Our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed; the night is advanced, the day is at hand.”
Every day brings us closer to meeting Jesus. So, he tells us to get ready, and “put on the armor of light.”
When will our time come? When will Jesus come? We have no idea.
On that note, Jesus gives us good advice. He says, “Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come."
So, we are continually on the lookout for Jesus who comes to us in little ways every day, showing his face in those who are in need, being present to us sacramentally at every Mass, and letting us know in our scriptures for today that he will come in glory at that unknown hour for those who believe in him.
Watch!
Have a blessed week everyone.
