The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time — Jan. 18, 2026

In the readings for this Sunday, we hear about people who were formed, called, and sent by God.

Israel was formed in the womb to be the Lord’s servant.
Paul was called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus.
And John the Baptist was sent to baptize and to testify that Jesus is the Son of God.

Each of them had a unique and essential role to play in God’s plan to save the world from sin, death, and destruction.

And the same is true for us.

Each of us has a role to play. God’s plan of salvation includes every one of us—make no mistake about that. We, too, have been chosen by God: formed in the womb, called by name, and sent into the world to announce the Good News as disciples of Jesus.

That calling may be lived out as a mother or father, a friend or neighbor, a co-worker or fellow student, a priest or a bishop. But whatever our vocation, God has formed us, called us, and sent us to others to point them toward the One who is greater than the world.

In what we do, in how we act, and in what we profess, we are servants of the God who has entrusted us with a message that must be proclaimed: Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We have been sent to testify—clearly and with conviction—that Jesus is the Son of God, and that all who believe in Him will find forgiveness of sins and life with God forever.

So let us do our part—not only to receive this Good News, but to announce it. This is what we have been formed for, called to, and sent to do.

We may never have the prominence of Israel, Paul, or John the Baptist, but in God’s saving plan for the world, we are no less important—and no less needed.

Have a blessed week, everyone.
