How different the way of Jesus is from the way of the world.
The world teaches us to take as much as we can, as quickly as we can. Jesus tells us to deny ourselves and to give without counting the cost.
The world urges us to put down the cross—to avoid suffering at all costs and seek immediate comfort. Jesus tells us to pick up the cross each day and to sacrifice out of love.
The world tells us to follow our own will, to forge our own path, and to listen only to ourselves. Jesus invites us to listen to his voice and follow where he leads.
The Old Testament places the choice clearly before us:
“I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life.”
The way of the world always ultimately leads to death. The way of Jesus always leads to life—even resurrected life.
Which way will you choose?
