The first line of our readings today invites us with these words: “Come, let us return to the LORD… he will heal us.” That invitation captures what Lent is all about—our return.
We are making our way back to God. We do penance for our sins. We ask for God’s forgiveness. We seek inner healing. We walk toward salvation. We reach out to those in need. And we journey toward the joy of Easter, when we will once again renew our baptismal promises: to reject Satan and all his empty works, and to profess our faith in the Triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
God is always waiting for us to come home again. Come, let us return to the Lord…he will heal us.
So the question before us today is simple: How close are we to our return?
