Our Scripture today tells us that “the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream.” After that dream, Joseph’s life was never the same. In obedience to God’s message, he took Mary as his wife and became the protector and provider of the child Jesus.
In a similar way, some of our own dreams and deepest aspirations can be messages from God, quietly guiding us toward his plan for our lives. God speaks not only through words, but through the desires he plants within our hearts.
Pope Francis, in a letter to the young people of the world in 2019, expressed this beautifully when he wrote: “Young people are not meant to become discouraged; they are meant to dream great things, to seek vast horizons, to aim higher, to take on the world, to accept challenges and to offer the best of themselves to the building of something better” (Christus vivit, no. 15).
And I hope the same can be said of all of us—especially those who remain young at heart and alive in the Lord. May we continue to listen, to dream, and to trust where God is leading us.
