Jesus makes it clear today that he has been sent on mission by the Father. He speaks openly about his relationship with God, saying that he knows the Father and comes from the Father.
Such a claim was shocking and deeply unsettling to those who heard him. The tension was already high, and the people attempted to have him arrested. In time, they would succeed—carrying out a mission inspired by the work of Satan. They would put him to death. Yet, as we know, God would have the final word on the day of the Resurrection.
On this Friday of Lent—as on every Friday—we remember the suffering Jesus endured simply for speaking the truth: that he is the Son of God, yesterday, today, and forever.
