The temple guards were sent to arrest Jesus because the crowds were divided over his true identity, and the chief priests and Pharisees wanted to silence him and restore their sense of order. Jesus, they believed, had become too much of a disturbance.
The guards went out, but they returned without him.
When questioned about why they came back empty-handed, the guards offered a remarkable response—one clearly inspired by the Holy Spirit: “Never before has anyone spoken like this man.”
Do we feel the same way when we listen to the words of Jesus?
