It is natural to wonder what might have happened if Mary had said “no” to the angel. Did God have another plan? Would redemption have come another way?
But those questions are unnecessary. Mary did say “yes,” and God worked his saving will through her. The Holy Spirit overshadowed her, and she conceived Jesus, the Savior of the world.
Today, we thank Mary for her youthful courage and deep faith. Without her willingness to do God’s will, we would never have known her Son as our Lord.
Thank you, Mary, for allowing the Savior of the world to be conceived in you. Without you, Mary, we don’t know how God would have saved us.
