The growing influence of Jesus alarms the chief priests and Pharisees. They fear unrest and worry that the Romans will intervene and destroy their nation.
God uses the lips of Caiaphas to proclaim a great truth. He says, “It is better for you that one man should die instead of the people, so that the whole nation may not perish.”
Jesus—one man—would die not only for Jerusalem or the Jewish people, but for the entire world. He would die for you and for me.
Caiaphas never knew how prophetically true his words were.
We do.
