Today we stand before the cross.
Find a crucifix. Display it. Reverence it. And then do something more daring: imagine yourself upon it with Jesus.
That is what we will do today at the Solemn Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion in our churches, as we listen to the Gospel that details his death, pray for the people of the world, venerate his cross, and receive his pre-consecrated Body and Blood only under the sign of bread today – there is no Mass on Good Friday.
I hope you can reflect on the cross of Jesus both at home and in one of our churches today. It is good for the soul to remember the price God paid to redeem us.
Let the cross touch your wounds, your disappointments, your grief. He came to suffer with you. He came to die for you. He came to love you all the way to the end.
Embrace the cross of Jesus Christ—and allow yourself to be embraced by the One who gave his life for yours.
