Sister Mary Dianne Rumschlag was formally installed as the provincial superior of the Sisters of Notre Dame USA during a Mass on July 5 at the congregation’s provincial center in Chardon.
A native of the Toledo area, Sister Mary Dianne returned to Ohio after serving as the head of school at Guardian Catholic in Jacksonville, Florida. She becomes the second provincial superior of the Sisters of Notre Dame USA since the congregation's four U.S. provinces were unified in 2020.

Joining Sister Mary Dianne on the SND USA Leadership Team are Sisters Patricia Mary Garrahan, Susan Maria Kusz, Marla Monahan and Valerie Marie Roxburgh who will serve as provincial counselors. Together, they will guide the congregation's mission and ministries throughout the United States.
Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost presided at the missioning Mass and offered words of gratitude and encouragement to the newly installed leadership team on behalf of the diocese.
“Sister Dianne, thank you for responding to the invitation of the Holy Spirit. With Sisters Pat, Susan, Marla and Val: Thank you for taking on the ministry, the challenge and the grace of leadership. To the secretarial team and the community coordinators: Thank you for your support of the provincial government and all your sisters in community,” Bishop Woost said.
He reminded those gathered that authentic leadership is rooted in faith, hope and attentiveness to God's call.
“Great leaders act with empathy, attending to what those around them are feeling. Great leaders read the signs of the times, especially the obscure and bold ones. Great leaders listen for the quiet, whispering voice of God and trust in the surprising inspirations of the Spirit. Great leaders welcome the transforming power of God's vision of the future. Great leaders live in hope, work with hope and inspire hope. Why? Because our God is good and faithful. Because our God always invites us to life.”
Founded in 1850 in Coesfeld, Germany, the Sisters of Notre Dame arrived in Cleveland in July 1874. What began with eight sisters quickly grew into a community of more than 200 members within just four years. Today members of the congregation serve in education, healthcare, pastoral ministry, social justice advocacy and outreach, retreat work and spiritual direction, and numerous other ministries as they proclaim God’s goodness and compassionate love, especially to the poor and marginalized.
