Actions speak louder than words. That is the simple but powerful message of today's Gospel.
Jesus tells the story of two sons. Their father asks each of them to go and work in the vineyard.
The first replies, "Yes, sir," but never goes.
The second initially refuses, but later changes his mind, goes to the vineyard, and does his father's will.
Jesus then asks, "Which of the two did his father's will?" The answer is obvious. It was not the son who spoke the false promise, but the one who, in the end, did what his father asked.
Jesus applies the parable to those listening. Some people, including tax collectors and prostitutes, had once said "no" to God by the way they lived. Yet they repented, changed their lives, and began following him. Others, especially some of the religious leaders, honored God with their words and outward observance but failed to do his will. They said "yes" with their lips but "no" with their lives.
The Gospel is both challenging and hopeful.
It reminds us that our past does not have to define our future. It is never too late to change course, to seek God's mercy, and to begin working in his vineyard. The Lord is always ready to welcome a repentant heart.
To call ourselves Christians means more than professing faith. It means living it. Our words matter, but our actions reveal what we truly believe.
May we be known not only for what we say, but for the way we love, serve, forgive, and follow Christ each day.
Have a blessed week, everyone.
