Office for Worship

July 2021 Liturgical Calendar Reminders:

July 4 is Tuesday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time. The Mass for Independence Day may be used.

July 22 is the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene. Proper orations for St. Mary Magdalene are used, with white vestments. The Gloria is sung. Readings are Proper (LECT # 603).

July 23 is World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. In 2021, Pope Francis established the celebration of the World Day for Grandparents and Elderly on the fourth Sunday of July, near the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus (July 26). The theme for the 2023 celebration selected by the pope is “His mercy is from age to age” (Lk 1:50). Resources and ideas for how to celebrate are available here.

July 25 is the Feast of St. James, Apostle. Proper orations for St. James, Apostle are used, with red vestments. The Gloria is sung. Readings are Proper (LECT # 605).

The July 29 Memorial of Saint Martha has been expanded to become the Memorial of Saints Martha, Mary and Lazarus. An interim Mass formulary is available online, as a free PDF download in both English and Spanish. Indications given in the Lectionary for Mass for July 29 remain the same, and other texts in the Liturgy of the Hours may be supplied by the Common of Holy Men until the approval and implementation of new proper texts that include SS. Martha, Mary and Lazarus together.

SECRETARIAT FOR PARISH LIFE AND SPECIAL MINISTRIES

Eucharistic Revival

The Parish Year of Revival starts June 11.

Here are five things you can do to kick off your Parish Revival:

  • Form a parish team to plan activities for the Eucharistic Revival. Download the USCCB Parish Revival Leader’s Playbook for some concrete ideas your community can take (English | Spanish). If you have not already done so, please submit the name of your Parish Point of Contact for the Eucharistic Revival here.
  • Organize a Eucharistic Procession in your neighborhood or encourage parishioners to participate in a nearby procession. After initial preparations have been developed and a route established with local permissions, parishes must contact the Office for Worship to obtain the Bishop’s formal approval of these plans. Click here for a listing of Parish Eucharistic Processions. To add your Parish Eucharistic Procession to the diocesan listing, please click here.
  • Pray for the Revival. Our diocesan prayer for the Eucharistic Revival has been translated into seventeen different languages. Visit our website to download print-ready copies of the prayer to share with your community. We have also created a beautiful multilingual video of the prayer. (Jeff Stutzman has link to video.)
  • Join us for one or all the Ballpark Masses taking place this summer. Online registration is now open.
  • Sign up for the Heart of the Revival e-newsletter to stay connected to what the National Eucharistic Revival is all about. Also, download the National Eucharistic Revival app from your favorite app store for access to free videos and audio resources on the Eucharist.
