The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School (VASJ) are pleased to accept applications for the position of Director of Mission and Formation. Founded in 1990 when Villa Angela Academy merged with St. Joseph High School, Villa Angela– St. Joseph High School is a diocesan-sponsored, co-educational, comprehensive, college preparatory high school rooted in the Ursuline and Marianist traditions. VASJ is committed to the spiritual, academic, and personal growth of each student. With a population of about 500 students in grades nine through twelve, Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School provides young men and women with a nurturing and supportive educational environment in which to grow academically, spiritually, socially, and morally.
Position Overview
Reporting to the President, the primary responsibility of the Director of Mission and Formation is implementing the vision, mission, teachings, and traditions of the Catholic Church through collaborative faith formation experiences designed to assist the students in becoming disciples for Christ. The Director will evangelize, encourage, discover and “call forth” the Catholic ministerial talents of all those in the school community – students, staff, faculty, alumni, and families alike, to share in the responsibility of the Catholic formation of the students as a community of faith.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a senior member of the school staff to fully implement school mission and values for all parts of the school community.
- Be responsible for coordinating all spiritual/religious activities directed at the practice of the faith of the students, such as liturgies, retreats, Catholic Schools Week, and Catholic devotions by planning and scheduling an annual calendar of events to include liturgies, retreats, etc.
- Work collaboratively with school religion teachers and LIFE leader to foster student and faculty formation, planning and chaplains integration into the community
- In keeping with the Diocese of Cleveland’s rich tradition of service, manage and coordinate community service and outreach programs for students to put their faith into action as servant leaders.
- Create a culture of Adult Formation for faculty, staff, families and alumni by incorporating all aspects of our Catholic faith into our community. Develop “Mission Formations Program” for new faculty/staff, implement activities that enhance faith formation of administration, faculty, staff, parents and alumni.
- Coordinate with Admissions, Advancement, and Marketing teams to help promote Villa Angela-St. Josephs’ mission and values of the Ursuline and Marianist charisms to prospective and current families, alumni, and friends.
- Represent Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School at community and diocesan meetings and events.
- Oversee the regular review of programs and policies.
- Develop and manage the annual faith and formation budget.
- Other duties as assigned by the Administration.
- This is a full time, 12-month position.
Qualifications:
- A practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church with a deep commitment to and alignment with Catholic teachings, traditions, mission, and values.
- Familiarity with best practices in Catholic formation and programming. Knowledge of Church documents that guide faith formation and Catholic ministry.
- Bachelor’s degree in religious studies, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Two to three years of experience in Catholic education or pastoral ministry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrated success in meeting deadlines on multiple, concurrent projects.
- Availability and ability to perform responsibilities during the day as well as nights and weekends as required.
