Foods & Nutrition Teacher - Part Time
Elyria Catholic High School is seeking an engaging and student-centered educator to teach Foods and Nutrition. This educator will instruct students on developing the knowledge and practical skills needed to make informed decisions about nutrition, food preparation, and healthy living. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experiences in the foods lab, students learn to evaluate information related to food technology, nutrition, and safety while building confidence in meal planning, time management, and responsible resource use. We welcome candidates who are passionate about equipping students with lifelong skills that support personal well-being and healthy decision-making.
Position Overview:
This position combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning experiences that help students develop practical skills in nutrition, food preparation, and healthy living. Through engaging lessons and food labs, students build the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed decisions about personal wellness and resource management.

The Foods and Nutrition Teacher uses a variety of instructional strategies to help students meet course standards while monitoring progress and providing meaningful feedback to students and families.
The Foods and Nutrition Teacher collaborates with colleagues and administrators to support student success and contribute to the school community. Engagement in the life of the school extends beyond the classroom. Occasional evening and weekend involvement is expected, particularly in support of service initiatives, school events, and community partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities:
Foods and Nutrition Instruction (Part-Time Teaching Role)
- Create an atmosphere in which students feel safe and welcomed.
- Enjoy working with students in the classroom.
- Use a variety of engaging instructional strategies, including food labs, to assist students with learning and meeting course standards.

- Monitor the progress of individual students and provide feedback to students and parents.
- Support students with academic issues and provide encouragement.
- Regularly communicate necessary information to students, colleagues, and administrators regarding students’ needs.
- Work collaboratively with staff for the good of students and the school.
- Desire to grow professionally by partaking in professional development offered by the school.
- Shop and prepare ingredients and groceries utilized during labs outside of the classroom time
Qualifications:
- Commitment to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and to best practices in Catholic education.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, or a related field in science
- Current Ohio teaching license or willingness to obtain teaching certification
- Energy and enthusiasm for working with and developing students for success in high school and beyond
- Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education
- Successful BCI and FBI background checks and VIRTUS certified or willing to be certified.
