We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English teacher to join our high school faculty. The ideal candidate will inspire students to become thoughtful readers, effective writers, and confident communicators while fostering a lifelong appreciation for literature, language, and critical thinking.
Position Summary The High School English Teacher is responsible for teaching English language arts courses while creating an engaging and challenging learning environment that promotes academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, creativity, and effective communication.
Responsibilities Teach high school English courses as assigned by the principal. Develop and implement engaging lessons in literature, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and communication. Create a classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, discussion, creativity, and independent learning. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Assess student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback. Maintain accurate academic records, including grades, attendance, and required documentation. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel. Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and the mission of the school. Participate in school activities, faculty meetings, professional development, and other responsibilities as assigned. Contribute positively to the culture and community of St. Peter's School.
Qualifications Qualified candidates will: Possess a bachelor's degree or higher in English, literature, education, communications, journalism, writing, or a related field. Hold a valid Ohio teaching license or be willing to obtain appropriate licensure and certification. Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills. Have experience working with adolescents in educational, coaching, mentoring, or related settings. Demonstrate a passion for literature, writing, and student learning. Support the mission and values of Catholic education. Successfully complete FBI and BCI background checks and the Diocese of Toledo VIRTUS Safe Environment Program. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required.
