K-8 Physical Education Teacher Job Description
Our Lady of the Elms School, a private Catholic school rooted in the Dominican tradition, educates girls and young women to live their lives boldly with purpose, confidence, kindness, resilience, justice, and faith.
As the only all-girls, faith-based K–12 school in Summit County, the Elms is seeking a full-time, exemptPhysical Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year beginning in August 2026. The Physical Education Teacher will work under the supervision of the Principal and be supported by a Team Lead.
The ideal candidate will foster a nurturing, academically rigorous, and faith-filled classroom environment where young learners can thrive intellectually, socially, spiritually, and emotionally.
As a physical education teacher, you will promote physical literacy, healthy lifestyle choices, and teamwork, keeping the school’s mission and Dominican identity at the heart of all instruction.
Major Responsibilities
- Instructional Leadership & Curriculum Development
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Physical Education and Health lessons adapted to various grade levels (K–8) and physical abilities.
- Prepare and submit well-structured, precise weekly lesson plans that clearly outline daily instructional objectives and activities. Teachers will receive weekly feedback on the best lesson-planning practices.
- Teach fundamental motor skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, fitness concepts, and the rules of various sports and cooperative games.
- Instruct health education topics, including nutrition, personal hygiene, mental/emotional well-being, and overall healthy lifestyle choices.
- Assess and evaluate student progress fairly, maintaining accurate grading records in accordance with school and Diocesan policies.
- Obtain and uphold the formal religious certification from the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland to ensure faith-filled and doctrinally sound classroom instruction.
- Classroom & Gym Management
- Establish and maintain clear classroom management procedures to ensure a safe, orderly, and respectful learning environment in both the gym and the classroom.
- Supervise students carefully during all activities to ensure maximum safety and proper equipment usage.
- Organize, maintain, and inventory all physical education and health instructional equipment.
- Establish and maintain a positive, well-structured, and nurturing classroom management system based on mutual respect and kindness.
- Utilize cutting-edge educational technology and innovative AI frameworks to streamline administrative tasks and create interactive, modern learning experiences.
- Faith-Based Spirituality
- Embrace and display Catholic/Christian values and spirituality
- Participate with your students in Catholic celebrations
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Dominican pillars of study, preaching, community, and prayer in your teaching
Salary Range: $35,000 to $50,000 (varies by years of experience, multiple credentials, extra services, and academic recommendations)
Core Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Valid State of Ohio Physical Education K-8 Teaching License
- Experience in a Catholic learning environment preferred
- Complete the Diocese of Cleveland’sVirtus: Protecting God’s Children training prior to employment
- Successfully pass a criminal background check (BCI/FBI)
