Over the past two years, the entire People of God, in all its diversity, has been participated in the Synod on Synodality, which focuses on the three pillars of a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission. Below are the synthesis reports from the various phases of the synodal process.

The 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops will take place in Rome from October 4 through October 29, 2023 with the theme: “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission.” In preparation, Pope Francis has invited us to observe a moment of prayer on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, placing the Synod under her protection.

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name. With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it. We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder. Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions. Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right. All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen.
Bishop Malesic celebrated an Opening Liturgy on Sunday, October 17 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist which began the diocesan phase of the three-year synodal journey of consultations and discernment. All baptized Catholics were invited participate in this process of listening, dreaming, and discerning God’s call for the Church amid the present signs of the times. The diocesan discernment concluded with a “Pre-Synodal Gathering” on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Over 250 delegates gathered to pray, share, listen and discern our next steps on this synodal journey together.
