The Transitus of St. Francis is the solemn observance of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, celebrated by Franciscans on the evening of October 3rd, the vigil of his feast day. The word "transitus" is Latin for "passage" or "crossing over," signifying Francis's joyful passage from earthly life to eternal life with God. The same songs are sung and readings are read that were requested by St. Francis at the time of his passing in 1226, 800 years ago. Bishop Malesic will join the Franciscans in the celebration.
