Position Summary

Saint Ignatius High School is seeking an energetic and dependable Facilities Associate to join the Campus Operations team and help maintain the upkeep and functionality of the school's facilities.

The ideal candidate will bring a hard-working, meticulous work ethic along with a positive, customer-service-oriented attitude. The Facilities Associate will perform general cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep across multiple building sites, including both interior and exterior duties.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, year-round position reporting to the Facilities & Events Supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities

General Cleaning & Sanitization

  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, wax, polish, and spot-clean floors, carpets, furniture, woodwork, and hallway glass display cases.

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and water fountains/coolers.

  • Refill soap, paper towel, and bathroom tissue dispensers throughout the buildings.

  • Wash walls, hallways, windows, window sills, and doors.

  • Remove writing and graffiti from walls.

  • Remove cobwebs.

  • Empty and clean waste receptacles.

  • Maintain neat and orderly work and storage areas.

Facilities & Event Support

  • Set up and clean up equipment, tables, chairs, and rooms for school activities, athletic programs, and special events.

  • Maintain accurate inventories of custodial equipment, materials, and supplies.

  • Submit requests for needed supplies as necessary.

  • Clean, maintain, and properly store custodial equipment and tools.

Building Maintenance

  • Report damaged, broken, or loose fixtures and equipment to supervisors.

  • Assist work crews and perform basic maintenance tasks as required.

  • Help ensure school facilities are properly functioning and maintained.

Record Keeping & Administration

  • Complete required paperwork.

  • Maintain records as requested by the supervisor.

  • Attend meetings and in-service training sessions.

Communication & Professionalism

  • Interact positively with staff, students, and parents.

  • Handle public inquiries with tact and diplomacy.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive school information.

  • Respond to routine questions and directives clearly and professionally.

  • Adjust flexibly to different locations, work assignments, and supervisor directives.

  • Work cooperatively with members of the Campus Operations team and the broader school community.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

Experience

  • 1–2 years of related cleaning or custodial experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning processes and protocols.

  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly, both orally and in writing.

  • Strong active listening skills.

  • Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, warning labels, and Safety Data Sheets.

  • Training in the proper care, measurement, relabeling, and storage of cleaning chemicals.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Flexibility in daily assignments and responsibilities.

Equipment Operated

The Facilities Associate may operate:

  • Vacuum cleaners.

  • Wet/dry vacuums.

  • Carpet cleaners.

  • Floor scrubbers and buffers.

  • Power washers.

  • Standard wet/dry mops.

  • Brooms and manual cleaning tools.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

The position requires:

  • Frequent standing and walking, occasionally 2–3 miles per day.

  • Frequent reaching, stretching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.

  • Repetitive hand motions associated with sweeping, mopping, and waxing.

  • Occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to push and pull wheeled equipment weighing up to 300 pounds.

  • Ability to climb stairs and work in high places.

  • Ability to perform duties in both interior and exterior environments.

  • Occasional overtime work as required.

About Saint Ignatius High School

Saint Ignatius High School opened its doors on September 6, 1886, and is a Jesuit college-preparatory school for young men in Cleveland, Ohio. The school enrolls more than 1,400 students from 92 cities across an 11-county region.

Located in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood near downtown, the campus encompasses 25 acres, including 20 buildings and three athletic fields. Saint Ignatius has 114 faculty members, 89 percent of whom hold advanced degrees, and 56 percent have taught at Saint Ignatius for 10 years or more.

The school is also home to The Welsh Academy, a middle school for boys from local families of modest economic means. Founded in 2019, the academy serves more than 60 boys in grades 6–8.
