Position Summary

St. Bernadette Parish is seeking a skilled and dependable Assistant Maintenance Supervisor to support the care, maintenance, and operation of all parish facilities and grounds. Working closely with the Maintenance Supervisor, this position helps ensure that parish buildings and outdoor spaces remain safe, clean, attractive, and fully operational in support of the parish's ministries, school, and community activities.

The ideal candidate possesses broad maintenance experience, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to providing excellent service while supporting the mission of the Catholic Church.


Essential Responsibilities

Facilities Maintenance

  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with the daily operation and maintenance of all parish facilities.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on building systems and equipment according to established schedules.

  • Complete routine maintenance and minor repairs involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building systems.

  • Participate in facility improvement projects and capital maintenance initiatives.

  • Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and potential code or regulatory issues.

  • Oversee and coordinate the work of outside contractors as assigned.

Grounds & Exterior Maintenance

  • Assist in maintaining parish grounds, parking lots, sidewalks, entrances, playgrounds, athletic fields, and outdoor gathering spaces.

  • Monitor and maintain exterior lighting, fencing, signage, irrigation systems, and other outdoor infrastructure.

  • Coordinate with contractors responsible for landscaping, lawn care, tree maintenance, snow removal, and seasonal grounds maintenance.

Custodial & Event Support

  • Help monitor cleaning schedules for classrooms, offices, church facilities, restrooms, hallways, gymnasiums, and common areas.

  • Assist with setup and teardown for parish, school, and community events.

  • Ensure tables, chairs, platforms, and other event equipment are available, maintained, and safely stored.

  • Support major parish events as needed.

Safety & Compliance

  • Assist in maintaining compliance with diocesan, local, state, and federal health, safety, fire, and environmental regulations.

  • Conduct and document routine safety inspections.

  • Maintain records related to fire inspections, boiler inspections, Health Department requirements, and AHERA compliance.

  • Respond to facility emergencies and urgent maintenance needs as required.


Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, property management, or related fields.

  • Working knowledge of:

    • HVAC systems

    • Plumbing

    • Electrical systems

    • Carpentry

    • Groundskeeping

    • Custodial operations

  • Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and equipment.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds and perform physical work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Availability to respond to facility emergencies on a 24/7, year-round basis.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and other hours as needed for parish events or emergency situations.
