BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER

St. Columbkille Parish and School

PAY RATE: $19–$22 per hour, based on experience and competency

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Non-Exempt, Hourly

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week with flexible hours and occasional overtime required for snow removal and facility emergencies.

School-Year Schedule: Monday–Friday, 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. on school days

Non-School Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

OVERTIME: 1.5x pay for snowplowing and facility emergency coverage

BENEFITS: Pension, medical, dental, and vision insurance

REPORTS TO: Business Manager, Jim Presot

POSITION PURPOSE

The Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the parish and school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure the safe, full, and productive use of all facilities. This position works closely with the Facilities Manager and other parish and school staff to support the maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and functionality of the campus.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a Christ-like attitude in all interactions and align with the St. Columbkille culture of serving others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Maintain all parish properties, including the church, school, parish center, chapel, rectory, offices, annex buildings, and grounds.

• Follow the direction of the Facilities Manager regarding cleaning schedules and ongoing maintenance needs.

• Communicate effectively with members of the parish and school community.

• Operate equipment and machinery safely and appropriately.

• Respond productively to changing priorities and perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in maintaining parish buildings and grounds in excellent condition.

• Support the safety, health, and comfort of students, employees, parishioners, and visitors.

• Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.

• Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations related to:

– Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.

– Interior and exterior building maintenance.

– School grounds.

– Church and parish grounds.

• Move equipment and materials within and between parish buildings.

• Work overtime as needed for snowplowing and facility emergencies.

• Follow all applicable local, state, OSHA, and diocesan regulations and policies.

• Adhere to all diocesan health and safety policies, including precautions outlined in the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager, Pastor, or Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Experience in building and grounds operations.

• Familiarity with computers and software related to maintenance and inventory management.

• Ability to read and understand chemical labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

• Ability to initiate and complete maintenance request forms through email.

• Valid driver's license and ability to drive and qualify under the diocesan insurance carrier when operating a parish vehicle.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

• Commitment to Christ-like behavior and the mission and culture of St. Columbkille Parish and School.

• Successful completion of required BCI and FBI background checks and fingerprinting.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to:

• Sit or stand for extended periods.

• Lift, carry, push, and pull heavy objects and materials.

• Bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist, turn, and reach.

• Climb and maintain balance.

• Work indoors and outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.

• Work in noisy and crowded environments.

• Work in areas with dust, fumes, and odors.

• Operate a motor vehicle.

• Work safely in elevated areas and at heights.

• Wear appropriate safety and protective equipment.

• Follow proper safety procedures when using ladders, mechanical lifts, and other equipment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Overtime may be required for snowplowing and facility emergencies.

• Tobacco use is permitted only during break times and in designated areas.
