Business Manager / Facility Manager

Parish Position
Status: Part-Time
Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week
Reports to: Pastor

Position Summary

Our parish is seeking a dependable, organized, and hands-on Business Manager / Facility Manager to assist with the day-to-day operations of the parish, including oversight of the church, basement hall, rectory, grounds, and designated parish programs.

This position combines facility management, business operations, vendor coordination, budgeting, and program support. The ideal candidate will be organized, resourceful, comfortable working independently, and able to coordinate people, projects, and parish resources while supporting the mission of the parish.

Essential Responsibilities

Business & Operations

  • Assist the Pastor with the day-to-day business and operational needs of the parish.

  • Maintain organized records for vendors, contracts, insurance, inspections, warranties, maintenance, and parish property.

  • Assist with facility and program budgets; track expenses, invoices, and purchasing.

  • Obtain estimates, coordinate vendors, and oversee completion of repairs and improvement projects.

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, control costs, and responsibly utilize parish resources.

  • Provide periodic updates to the Pastor regarding expenses, facility needs, projects, and operational concerns.

Facility Management

  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of the church, basement hall, rectory, and grounds.

  • Monitor HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, structural, and other building systems.

  • Handle or coordinate minor repairs and arrange licensed contractors for larger or specialized work.

  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and service records.

  • Coordinate required fire, safety, and building inspections.

  • Oversee custodial standards, grounds maintenance, snow removal, and seasonal needs.

  • Coordinate setup and breakdown for Masses, funerals, weddings, parish events, community activities, and rentals.

  • Respond to facility emergencies, including occasional evening or off-hours situations.

  • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, supplies, and parish property.

  • Help develop and prioritize long-term capital improvement and maintenance needs.

Designated Program Oversight

  • Provide administrative and operational oversight for select parish and community programs as assigned by the Pastor.

  • Ensure assigned programs have appropriate schedules, supplies, space, volunteers, and resources.

  • Monitor program expenses and maintain basic records of activities and participation.

  • Coordinate staff, volunteers, vendors, and community partners involved with assigned programs.

  • Assist with implementing new initiatives and evaluating existing programs for effectiveness and sustainability.

  • Support grant-funded activities through expense tracking, documentation, and reporting as needed.

Communication & Parish Support

  • Serve as a point of contact for facility, operational, and assigned program matters.

  • Work cooperatively with the Pastor, parish leadership, staff, volunteers, parishioners, contractors, and community partners.

  • Maintain a professional, welcoming, and service-oriented presence within the parish and community.

  • Protect the confidentiality of parish business and community matters.

Qualifications

  • Experience in business operations, facilities management, property management, nonprofit administration, maintenance, or a related field.

  • Trades or maintenance experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience coordinating vendors, projects, budgets, or programs.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

  • Basic computer skills for email, scheduling, recordkeeping, and budget tracking.

  • Knowledge of older or historic building systems is a plus.

  • Ability to perform or oversee physical maintenance tasks as needed.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Successful completion of required background check.

  • Respect for and familiarity with the mission and values of the Catholic/Christian faith community.

Schedule & Availability

This is a part-time position of approximately 20 hours per week, with flexibility based on parish needs.

Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required for:

  • Parish events

  • Facility emergencies

  • Funerals

  • Weddings

  • Rentals

  • Special parish activities

Compensation

Pay will be based on experience and qualifications.

Range

$20/hour — $25/hour
