Director of Parish Operations

Full-Time

Reports To: Pastor
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (Evenings and weekends as needed)

Position Summary

The Director of Parish Operations serves as the chief administrative leader of the parish, working closely with the Pastor to implement his vision and advance the parish mission. This position oversees the parish's day-to-day non-pastoral operations, including finance, human resources, facilities, technology, communications, and administration while ensuring compliance with diocesan policies and applicable regulations.

The Director collaborates with parish leadership, staff, and volunteers to promote operational excellence, responsible stewardship, and a welcoming, mission-focused environment.


Essential Responsibilities

Leadership & Administration

  • Serve as the Pastor's primary advisor on operational, financial, legal, and administrative matters.

  • Oversee daily parish operations, including finance, human resources, facilities, technology, communications, and development.

  • Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives.

  • Coordinate parish-wide priorities, special projects, and ministry support.

  • Represent the parish at diocesan meetings and community functions as directed by the Pastor.

Financial Management

  • Oversee parish budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and internal controls.

  • Monitor offertory, online giving, operating expenses, and capital projects.

  • Collaborate with the Parish Finance Council and diocesan offices on financial planning and compliance.

  • Oversee purchasing, vendor contracts, insurance, and fundraising support.

  • Ensure responsible stewardship of parish resources.

Human Resources

  • Supervise parish administrative, financial, ministry, and maintenance staff.

  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, payroll coordination, and benefits administration.

  • Foster a collaborative, mission-driven workplace culture.

  • Maintain personnel policies and ensure compliance with employment regulations.

Facilities & Operations

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and long-term planning for parish buildings and grounds.

  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and capital improvement projects.

  • Coordinate diocesan approvals for major facility projects.

  • Support parish technology infrastructure and operational efficiency.

Communications & Development

  • Support parish communications, including oversight of the parish bulletin and marketing initiatives.

  • Assist with stewardship, fundraising campaigns, and development efforts.

  • Promote effective communication throughout the parish community.


Qualifications

Required

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Church.

  • Associate's degree in Business Administration or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).

  • Five to ten years of leadership or business management experience, preferably in a parish, nonprofit, or faith-based organization.

  • Strong knowledge of finance, budgeting, human resources, and organizational management.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, project management, and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and business software.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred

  • Experience working within a Catholic parish or diocesan setting.

  • Familiarity with diocesan policies and Canon Law as they relate to parish administration.

  • Experience overseeing facilities, technology, and capital improvement projects.


Working Conditions

  • Full-time position based in the parish office.

  • Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

  • Evening and weekend work required for parish events, meetings, emergencies, and special projects.

  • Occasional outdoor work and oversight of facilities in varying weather conditions.
