St. Barnabas Catholic School is seeking a compassionate, student-centered School Counselor to support the academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and spiritual growth of students in preschool through eighth grade. Working collaboratively with students, families, faculty, and administration, the School Counselor provides school-based counseling services, classroom guidance, crisis support, and consultation to foster a safe, supportive, and faith-filled learning environment where every child is known, valued, and encouraged to thrive.
The School Counselor serves as a trusted resource for students while supporting the mission and values of Catholic education through care, collaboration, and respect for the dignity of every individual.
Provide brief individual and small-group counseling for students.
Support students experiencing anxiety, grief, peer conflict, bullying, family transitions, attendance concerns, or difficulty adjusting to school.
Help students develop emotional regulation, organization, executive functioning, communication, coping, decision-making, and self-advocacy skills.
Assist students in successfully transitioning between grade levels and into high school.
Plan and deliver age-appropriate classroom lessons focused on:
Emotional regulation
Friendship and social skills
Conflict resolution
Executive functioning
Decision-making
Personal safety
Healthy relationships
Partner with teachers and families to develop practical strategies that support student success.
Participate in student intervention, attendance, safety, and crisis-response teams.
Collaborate with intervention specialists, administrators, and outside service providers.
Refer families to community resources and mental health providers when needs extend beyond school-based counseling.
Respond appropriately to concerns involving abuse, neglect, self-harm, threats, or other student safety issues in accordance with legal and diocesan requirements.
Maintain accurate student records while protecting confidentiality.
Provide educational resources and presentations for faculty and families related to student wellness and child development.
Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Principal.
Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field.
Valid Ohio School Counselor license or eligibility to obtain appropriate licensure.
Experience working with children or adolescents.
Knowledge of child development, school counseling practices, crisis intervention, and mandated reporting requirements.
Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
Successful completion of required background checks and Diocese of Cleveland Safe Environment requirements.
Experience in a preschool through eighth-grade or Catholic school setting.
Experience supporting students with:
Executive functioning challenges
Anxiety and grief
Behavior interventions
Restorative practices
Crisis response
Familiarity with student support teams, accommodation plans, service plans, and coordination with outside providers.

This is a part-time position serving students in Preschool through Grade 8. The School Counselor provides brief, school-based counseling and student support services and does not serve as the school's primary disciplinarian or provide long-term clinical therapy.
