Position Summary

Saint Joseph Academy is seeking a highly analytical, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. This position is responsible for financial planning, forecasting, and analysis while overseeing key month-end accounting activities. The Senior Accountant ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, prepares journal entries, reconciles complex accounts, and supports budgeting, reporting, and continuous process improvement.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, and prepaid expense entries.

  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations, including bank accounts, inter-fund transactions, and fixed assets.

  • Review general ledger activity to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Assist with annual audit preparation and supporting documentation.

  • Analyze actual financial results against budgets and prior-year performance.

  • Support the development of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models.

  • Prepare financial reports, management reports, and key performance indicator (KPI) tracking.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting and reporting efficiency.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

  • Three to five years of accounting experience.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Commitment to supporting the mission of Catholic education.

Preferred

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA designation.

  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably Blackbaud Financial Edge.

  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning and analysis (FP&A).
