Life Teen Youth Minister

Catholic Parish | Full-Time | In-Person

Position Summary

The parish is seeking a passionate, relational, and mission-driven Life Teen Youth Minister to lead its high school youth ministry program. The successful candidate will build authentic relationships with teenagers and their families while creating opportunities for evangelization, discipleship, catechesis, prayer, community, and service.

Working in collaboration with parish leadership, adult volunteers, middle school ministry, Catholic schools, and the broader parish community, the Youth Minister will develop a vibrant ministry that helps teens encounter Jesus Christ, grow in their faith, and become active participants in the life of the Church.

Essential Responsibilities

Life Teen Program Leadership

  • Plan and execute weekly Life Teen Masses and LIFE Nights in alignment with the Life Teen curriculum and parish mission.

  • Recruit, form, train, and support a team of adult Core Members.

  • Maintain a balanced youth ministry framework emphasizing:

    • Evangelization

    • Catechesis

    • Community

    • Prayer

  • Support sacramental preparation for high school students, including Confirmation for older teens and OCIA when needed.

  • Evaluate and strengthen the overall Life Teen program.

Discipleship & Relationship Building

  • Build authentic, Christ-centered relationships with high school youth and their families.

  • Develop small-group discipleship opportunities that encourage teens to deepen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Identify and mentor teens with potential for peer ministry and leadership.

  • Encourage youth to take active leadership roles within the parish.

  • Collaborate with middle school youth ministry to create smooth transitions into the high school program.

Events, Retreats & Outreach

  • Organize and lead overnight retreats, lock-ins, service projects, and other youth ministry experiences.

  • Coordinate participation in diocesan youth events and national Life Teen gatherings.

  • Develop outreach strategies to engage inactive, disconnected, or unchurched teens.

  • Partner with Catholic schools and local public schools to expand the ministry's reach.

  • Create opportunities for teens to serve the parish and broader community.

Administration & Communication

  • Manage the youth ministry budget responsibly in consultation with parish leadership.

  • Maintain consistent communication with parents, Core Members, teens, and parish staff.

  • Utilize newsletters, social media, ministry apps, and other communication tools effectively.

  • Ensure compliance with all diocesan safe-environment policies, including VIRTUS/Protecting God's Children requirements.

  • Prepare annual ministry goals, reports, evaluations, and other materials for parish leadership.

  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation related to the ministry.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.

  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Education, Ministry, or a related field, or equivalent ministry experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the Life Teen model of youth ministry.

  • At least two years of experience in youth ministry, campus ministry, or a related field.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect authentically with teenagers and adults.

  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends according to the ministry schedule.

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • Successful completion of required diocesan safe-environment training and background checks.

Preferred:

  • Completion of Life Teen leadership training.

  • Experience leading parish-based overnight retreats.

  • Experience with ministry communication platforms such as Ministry Platform.

  • Experience in music ministry or willingness to incorporate contemporary Catholic worship music.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, in-person position requiring significant flexibility.

A typical week may include:

  • Sunday Mass and Life Teen activities

  • Evening youth programming

  • Evening staff or Core Member meetings

  • Daytime planning, administration, and meetings

  • Additional evenings and weekends for retreats, special events, outreach, and diocesan activities

The Youth Minister should expect the ministry schedule to vary based on the needs of the parish and youth community.
