Guided tours led by seminarians and others in formation at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe gave visitors a peek at what goes on inside the sprawling complex at 28700 Euclid Ave. The open house the afternoon of April 30 was part of the CPL?s 25th anniversary celebration.
The 43-acre CPL property, which the Sisters of the Good Shepherd had operated as Marycrest School for Girls since the 1940s, was purchased by the Diocese of Cleveland from the sisters in 1954. It was transformed first into Borromeo (minor) Seminary, with a high school and college.
The high school seminary closed in 1975, but the college operated until 1990. It remains a seminary, but is no longer a degree-granting institution. Seminarians enrolled at Borromeo study theology and philosophy at the CPL, but receive their degrees through John Carroll University.
