June 8, 2020

The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown announced funeral arrangements for Bishop George V. Murry, SJ who died on June 5 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City after a two-year battle with leukemia.

Public calling hours will be 2-7 p.m. June 11 at St. Colubma Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., Youngstown. Evening prayer will be at 7 p.m. in the cathedral.

Those attending are reminded to observe social distancing and other health safety guidelines implemented as a result of the coronavirus health emergency.

Due to state and local guidelines for large gatherings during the health crisis, a private Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. June 12 at St. Columba Cathedral, followed by the rite of committal at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Because of his illness, Bishop Murry, 71, submitted his resignation to Pope Francis on May 26.

He was appointed the fifth bishop of Youngstown by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Cathedral of St. Columba 59 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown Ohio 44503.
