The Culture Project returns this fall to the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and invites parish and school communities to meet with an all-new missionary team who are set to restore the culture within Northeast Ohio using improved ministry tools for the pandemic era.
After serving last October through April -- giving presentations to 7,609 students and 1,779 adults in more than 80 schools and parish groups -- a team of eight missionaries traveled back to the diocese. This year they trained in new ways to encounter even more Catholics with a complete virtual team dedicated to deliver virtual presentations.
The missionaries explain that the behaviors of mainstream society can easily shape a young person’s choices.
As one missionary shared in her videotaped welcome message, “The culture is so strong right now that even if you come from a good family, a Catholic family, it makes its way in.”
Presentations given by The Culture Project are designed to challenge young people, parents and young adults in workplace settings to combat the norm, which often reflects a toxic culture. Through testimonies, workshops and prayer, the missionaries discuss Catholic values of human dignity, sexual integrity and virtuous living.
“Their spirit, joy and authentic nature invites young people to be fully alive and aware of the lies our culture tells young people about love and self-worth,” said Josh Kilmer, mission team manager, which is a new role within the missionary structure.
Based in Columbus, Kilmer assists the missionaries with building out presentations that are focused specifically to the school or parishes the team may be speaking to, helping to book remote and in-person presentations and with overall communication.
For schools with remote learners, three missionaries who serve on the virtual team will conduct Zoom discussions.
The team moved further south this year and is based on the grounds of Assumption Parish in Broadview Heights. The new residence provides a central location for traveling throughout the eight counties the diocese serves.
Members of the missionary team are from as far west as Santa Clara, California, as far south as Louisiana and as east as New York City. Click here to read more on each of the individual missionaries.
To date, the teams have 54 talks scheduled into early 2021 and are still accepting bookings. Click here to schedule a visit.
