The latest edition of Spotlight on Schools helps close out the Lenten season by highlighting a special student presentation of living Stations of the Cross. Forty students from the FaithBuilders Leadership Club at St. Mary of the Assumption School in Mentor used their musical and dramatic talents in a memorable performance at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on March 15.
Besides the musical and dramatic talents of SMA students, this episode shares the accomplishments of some budding young scientists from SMA. One of the school’s eighth graders won first place in math and computer science and a grand prize for physical science in the seventh and eighth grade category at the 2024 Northeastern Ohio Science and Engineering Fair. The big winner’s work focused on artificial intelligence chatbots and chatbot detectors.
The segments closes with a look at how eighth-graders from St. Joseph School in Avon Lake are spreading the word about Blessed Carlo Acutis, an Italian teen who died of leukemia and created a website to document and chronical the Eucharistic Miracles. The student project will be part of the traveling Eucharistic Miracles display that has been making the rounds at different parishes across the diocese. It will be at St. Joseph Parish in Avon Lake April 21-28.
