Video: The Good Under Construction – August 2026 update

As work continues on the major interior renovation of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, here is the newest video in a series that offers updates on the project.

 “As the mother church of the diocese, the cathedral plays an important role for Catholics in Northeast Ohio,” said Bishop Edward Malesic. He expressed his gratitude for those whose donations are making the renovation possible.

With the project well underway, a temporary worship space is open in the diocesan office building across East Ninth Street.

Scaffolding is in place and work has begun on the transepts. The organ pipes were removed for minor repairs and will be stored during the renovation.

Meanwhile, artisans in Italy continue working on the new altar, baptismal font, cathedra and Stations of the Cross. Bishop Malesic recently visited the Italy to check on the progress of these furnishings.
