The Catholic Conference of Ohio encourages the enactment of effective laws that will provide maximum protection for unborn persons.

The National Committee for a Human Life Amendment is dedicated to pursuing this vision. The organization’s objectives include educating citizens, developing pro-life legislative networks, and offering programs in support of pro-life legislation. Among its various activities, NCHLA produces educational and program resources, communicates with leaders about legislative priorities and presents legislative seminars throughout the year. In a special way, NCHLA assists dioceses, state Catholic conferences, and Catholic lay groups. The Committee also works closely with the Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops works to teach respect for all human life and to organize for its protection in the light of The Gospel of Life, especially on behalf of those who are unborn, disabled, elderly and dying.

The Conference represents the Church’s position before the Ohio General Assembly, various state departments, bureaus, agencies and other organizations. The Conference also provides facilitation, coordination and joint programming for diocesan groups involved in various Church ministries.

Founded in 1994, the Academy is dedicated to “study, information and formation on the principal problems of biomedicine and of law, relative to the promotion and defense of life, above all in the direct relation that they have with Christian morality and the directives of the Church’s Magisterium.”

This USCCB proclaims that human life is a precious gift from God; that each person who receives this gift has responsibilities toward God, self and others; and that society, through its laws and social institutions, must protect and nurture human life at every stage of its existence.

In response to Pope John Paul II's "Gospel of Life" encyclical, the USCCB issues this plan to put forth "a precise and vigorous reaffirmation of the value of human life and its inviolability, and at the same time a pressing appeal addressed to each and every person, in the name of God: respect, protect, love and serve life, every human life."

The Coalition of American for Research Ethics is composed of scientists, researchers, bioethicists, medical, academic and other professionals, patient advocates, and concerned individuals who advocate the ethical pursuit of stem cell research and regenerative medicine in general. Do No Harm opposes stem cell research that relies on the destruction of human life and on human cloning and supports such alternatives as adult and cord blood stem cell research and the more recent advances involving induced pluripotent stem cells.

The National Catholic Bioethics Center, established in 1972, conducts research, consultation, publishing and education to promote human dignity in health care and the life sciences, and derives its message directly from the teachings of the Catholic Church.

National Organization to abolish the death penalty

This national organization mobilizes Catholics and all people of goodwill to value life over death, to end the use of the death penalty, to transform the U.S. criminal justice system from punitive to restorative, and to build capacity in U.S. society to engage in restorative practices.

Center on Wrongful Convictions is based at the Northwestern University’s School of Law, and is dedicated to identifying and rectifying wrongful convictions and other serious miscarriages of justice.

National organization fighting against the death penalty

A national anti-capital punishment organization comprised of families of murder victims.

OTSE is a coalition of individuals and organizations working to reduce the use of and ultimately end capital punishment in Ohio. We are ordinary Ohioans with an extraordinary vision for how society addresses violent crime and victim family needs.

We are called by Pope Paul II to be “unconditionally pro-life” and to respect the dignity of all persons. The US Catholic Bishops stand against the death penalty and capital punishment is not new. In 1974, in recognition of the growing culture of death in the US, the Bishops by a large majority voted to declare its opposition to the death penalty. Their 1980 statement on capital punishment details their position.
