Position Summary

SS. Robert and William Parish and St. John of the Cross Parish are seeking a Part-Time Director of Music to lead and support the musical and liturgical life of both parishes. The ideal candidate is a capable pianist and singer who is familiar with Catholic liturgy and has experience supporting congregational worship and parish choirs.

The position requires approximately 20 hours per week, including weekend liturgies, Holy Days of Obligation, and choir practices.

Requirements

  • Ability to play piano.

  • Capable singer.

  • Familiarity with Catholic liturgy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to play the organ.

  • Experience leading choirs.

  • Accredited education or training in music.

Time Commitment & Schedule

The position requires approximately 20 hours per week, including:

Weekend Liturgies

  • Saturday — 4:00 PM

  • Sunday — 8:00 AM

  • Sunday — 9:30 AM

  • Sunday — 11:00 AM

  • Sunday — 6:00 PM

Holy Days & Major Liturgical Celebrations

Coverage includes the evening Vigil and/or morning Masses associated with:

  • January 1

  • Ash Wednesday

  • Holy Thursday

  • Good Friday

  • Easter Vigil

  • August 15

  • November 1

  • December 8

  • December 25

Special Holidays

  • St. Patrick’s Day

  • Fourth of July

  • Memorial Day

  • Thanksgiving

Choir & Music Preparation

  • Choir/cantor practice on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

  • Prepare liturgical music for parish celebrations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Meet occasionally with the pastor.

  • Collaborate on liturgical preparation.

  • Arrange substitute musicians and cantors as needed.

  • Assist with technology and sound system integration.

  • Support the overall musical and liturgical needs of both parishes.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $25–$35 per hour.

  • Monthly Compensation: Approximately $2,250–$3,150.

  • Vacation: Three weeks.

  • Office: Office space provided.

Additional Opportunities

Additional availability is compensated at $125 per event for:

  • Weddings — approximately 4 per year.

  • Funerals — approximately 34 per year.

  • Parish concerts.

Option to Divide the Position

The parishes are willing to consider separating the position into two part-time positions.

St. John of the Cross Parish

Approximately 8 hours per week, including:

  • Saturday Mass — 4:00 PM

  • Sunday Mass — 9:30 AM

  • Tuesday evening choir practice

SS. Robert and William Parish

Approximately 12 hours per week, including:

  • Saturday Mass — 4:00 PM

  • Sunday Masses — 8:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 6:00 PM

  • Thursday evening choir practice
