The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. Under the leadership of the Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic, bishop of Cleveland, it is the twenty-third largest diocese in the United States. The diocese encompasses the counties of Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Wayne and Ashland. There are more than 670,000 Catholics in the Diocese, and Catholic Charities- Diocese of Cleveland is one of the largest diocesan systems of social services in the world. There are 184 parishes, 107 Catholic schools, 1 pastoral center and 1 mission office within the diocese. The cathedral is the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, located in downtown Cleveland.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Transactional accounting support and preparation of monthly financial statements for the Catholic Community Foundation, including the Angel Scholarship Fund, the Catholic Charities Annual Appeal, and provide support to the Diocesan Controller.
Responsibilities
- Support and preparation of monthly workpapers and financial statements for the Catholic Community Foundation and Angel Scholarship fund including:
- bank reconciliations
- investment reconciliation & earning allocation
- campaign sub-schedules
- journal entries
- lead schedule preparation
- financial statement compilation
- Support and preparation of monthly workpapers and financial statements for the Catholic Charities Annual Appeal, which is administered by the Foundation.
- Support gift entry functions with an understanding of gift coding structure.
- Coordinate accounts payable for operating expenses and fund distributions.
- Calculate capital campaign distributions to parishes and beneficiary projects.
- Maintain general ledger and reporting functions in Financial Edge NXT.
- Record, review and monitor deposits via import from Raiser’s Edge NXT.
- Investment administration to include, reconciliations, processing of administrative fees and filing of paperwork; quarterly parish investment reconciliation and asset allocation monitoring.
- Assist Office of Catholic Education, Catholic Charities, diocesan offices and parishes with inquiries and fund transactions.
- Assist Diocesan Controller with cash management.
- Assist with year-end audit support and 990 tax return schedule preparation.
- Electronic file maintenance (including work papers, bank and investment statements).
- Assistance with financial analysis and projects, as requested by Diocesan Controller.
- Special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business.
- CPA or candidate preferred.
- 3-5 years in an accounting role managing the accounting function, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
- Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT / Financial Edge NXT or other integrated non-profit accounting system preferred.
- Experience with MS Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
- Experience with commercial bank and credit card merchant portals preferred.
- Strong customer service mentality with willingness to understand and respond to the needs of parishes, donors, fundraising staff and external stakeholders.
- Team oriented approach to interactions with gift officers, data operations staff and other Diocesan professionals whose duties intersect with Foundation finances.
- Enthusiasm for learning new systems, how they relate to each other, and how to use them efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Interest in developing deep understanding of the nature of endowments, function and life cycle of funds, and donor intent.
- Practicing Catholic preferred but not required.

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 commensurate with experience.
Position is onsite in our downtown Cleveland offices.
