Reports to: Principal

Elyria Catholic High School has an immediate need for a Long-term Substitute Science Teacher for the 2025-26 school year. This position would be temporary for 6 weeks during the following time period:

  • November 10 – November 26 (approximately 2.5 weeks, up to Thanksgiving)
  • November 29 – December 17 (approximately 3 weeks, leading into Christmas break)

Summary and Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include teaching environmental science, forensic science, and chemistry.
  • By having a fundamental understanding of the scientific method, students will be able to apply critical thinking skills to future experiences in their post-secondary life.
  • Create an atmosphere in which students feel safe and welcomed.
  • Enjoy working with students in the classroom.
  • Use a variety of engaging instructional strategies, including laboratory experiences, to assist students with learning and meeting course standards.
  • Develop schemes of work and lesson plans.
  • Monitor the progress of individual students and provide feedback to students and parents.
  • Support students with academic issues and provide encouragement.
  • Regularly communicate necessary information to students, team members, and supervisors regarding students’ needs.
  • Work collaboratively with staff for the good of students and the school.
  • Desire to grow professionally by partaking in professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and to best practices in Catholic education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid teaching licensure (Teaching certificate, non-tax, substitute license, etc.)
  • Energy and enthusiasm for working with and developing students for success in high school and beyond
  • Successful BCI and FBI background checks and VIRTUS certified or willing to be certified.
